Multigenerational living redefined at The Lanes

James and his wife Paula are familiar with living in close quarters with family.

Paula’s parents, Sue and Gary, live in the house next door to theirs in Paddington—giving James and Paula’s son the chance to grow up with his grandparents close by for everyday special moments.

However, it was time for a change for this close-knit family.

Everyone was ready for a simpler, more effortless lifestyle—one that offered increased accessibility and low-maintenance living.

James said that while they had all enjoyed calling Paddington home, their collective needs had outgrown the suburb and the type of housing they were living in.

“We’ve lived in Paddington for nearly 25 years, and we’ve lived in Queenslanders that whole time,” James said. “We’re developers ourselves, so we do renovations and new builds, of course, and we felt it was time to change to a more maintenance-free life. Our son is in a wheelchair, so for him to be able to access everything easily was a big factor—because we’re on dual floors with stairs where we are now.”

After looking at different suburbs that could meet their needs, the choice was obvious: West End. From improved accessibility to vibrant dining and entertainment precincts, the family set their sights on finding the right place to call home.

“To find a good restaurant, good shopping centres, those sorts of things—it doesn’t exist [in Paddington] in the same way that it does in West End. So, to move here, with a more eclectic lifestyle, lots of activity, and lots more growth coming – it’s exciting.”

As developers with a keen eye for quality and value, the couple fell in love with The Lanes.

With a range of luxury, on-site amenities that appealed to everyone—from their teenage son through to their parents—the development offered something for every family member. Access to a pool, gym, dining room, and other facilities within their own tower was a major drawcard, making the entire offering at The Lanes feel particularly special. All that was left to do was find the right floorplan for both households.

James and Paula chose a top floor penthouse that offers enough space and privacy to suit life with their teenage son, while Sue and Gary opted for a one-bedroom apartment with a multipurpose room that’s perfect for them and their four-legged friend, Flynn.

After touring the newly completed display apartments at Wave Residences, the family shared a unanimous reaction – they were all impressed by the quality of the finishes and the overall beauty of the design. It’s safe to say they’re all very eager to call The Lanes their shared home.
